Below is a brief on the management team of DIBL comprising of experienced bankers who have worked for local and foreign banks particularly in the field of Islamic banking. The team enjoys a unique combination to develop tailor made Shari'ah Compliant products to meet the requirements of business community.

Mr. Nikolaus Rafiq Schwarz - President & CEO

The team is headed by Mr. Nikolaus Rafiq Schwarz, President & CEO of the Bank. Mr. Schwarz is an experienced banker with the experience of business development, relationship management, operations management and team leadership. Mr. Schwarz has over 20 years experience in various organizations in Asia and the Middle East including Deutsche bank AG & Commerzbank AG in conventional and Islamic Finance. It should be noted that Mr. Schwarz is an Austrian national and Alhamd-o-Lillah' a Muslim.

Prof. Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman - Shari'ah Advisor

Prof. Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman, the Shari'ah Advisor of the Bank, is a renowned Shari'ah Scholar who has done his Masters in Islamic studies, L.L.B, B.ED, Fazil-e-Arabi, Fazil-e-Dars-e-Nizami, Shahadat-al-Aalmiah-fil-uloom-il-Arabia-wa-Islamia. For more than 30 years, Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman has been issuing important Fatawas. He has an equally long experience of teaching Uloom-ul-Islami at graduate and post graduate levels. Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman is also the Chairman, Central Royat-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan and President Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Pakistan. Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman is a well-known and highly respected Islamic scholar.

Syed Rashid Rehman – SEVP & Head of Corporate & Retail

Mr. Rashid has done his Masters in Commerce from Faculty of Business Administration and Commerce, University of Karachi. He has extensive experience in the field of Corporate Finance which he gained in the last 29 years by virtue of working in International and Local banks. He was associated with Islamic banking since the year 2000 in a major private bank where he was actively engaged in research and development work. Working closely with renowned Shari'ah scholars, he played an instrumental role in developing Islamic Finance Products. In the year 2003, he became Head of Islamic Banking Division and General Manager and had the experience of opening five Islamic Banking Branches in five major cities of Pakistan. Besides, he also provided valuable support in establishing an Islamic Banking Division in Sri Lanka during his last employment with a private bank. He has attended various local and international seminars and courses on various topics on Islamic Banking.

Mr.Omar Bangash- SEVP & Head of Investment Banking

Mr. Omar Bangash brings with him vast experience in the financial sector. He has worked with top tier multinational institutions in Pakistan as well as in Canada for more than 25 years. Prior to joining Dawood Islamic Bank Mr. Bangash was an Investment Executive at Scotiabank Group in Canada and managed assets of approximately $25 million. He has an MBA from Sophia University, Tokyo,Japan and MSc from American University, Washington DC, USA. He started his banking career with Citibank N.A and worked at senior positions in leading banks of the world including American Express Bank where he was the Director and Head of the Investment Banking Department and at Standard Chartered Bank. In addition to the private sector, Mr. Bangash has extensive experience in public sector development institutions and has served as the Director finance of Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB). While at NDFC he was a key member of the private energy division which was responsible for funding the government’s IPP initiative. As senior consultant at the Privatization Commission he managed the divestment of major public sector assets.


S.M. Aamir Shamim – SEVP & Head of Treasury and Financial Institution

Mr. Aamir Shamim is an experienced banker who brings with him over 15 years of practical exposure in the field of Treasury and Fund Management. His extraordinary communication, financial capabilities and effective leadership & decision making skills, has made him gain extensive and diversified exposure of working at senior management levels in financial sector. Mr. Aamir started his career with the largest Investment bank in Pakistan. Then he moved on with his career in different financial institutions and then in May 2000, he joined a public sector financial institution as General Manager Treasury, where he was instrumental in successfully restructuring and transforming this public sector financial institution on the verge of collapse, into a professional forward looking commercial bank.

Mr. Aamir holds a Masters degree in Economics from University of Karachi. In DIBL, he is heading the Treasury and Financial Institution departments which comprise of a team of experienced Islamic bankers.


Ms. Shaheen Qureshi – EVP & Head of Human Resources

Ms. Shaheen Qureshi is an HR Professional with over 13 years of experience in handling functions of Human Resources in various Financial Institutions, formulating and implementing HR Policies, Job Descriptions, Manpower Planning and Budgeting, Recruitment and Selection etc. Ms. Qureshi has spent a huge time of her professional life with a local foreign bank. During her association with the Bank, she also worked as the head of Compensation and Benefits Department in Pakistan.
Her degree of MA in HR Management from Middlesex University Business School, London, is a very uncommon and exceptional achievement that she has made in her professional career.

Ms. Shaheen possesses a Masters Degree in HR Management and is also CIPD qualified.

Ms. Shaheen also had the privilege of establishing the HR department in a local private bank, where she worked on HR Policies, Procedures and Systems. She has also worked as the Head of Human Resource Department in First Women Bank Limited.

Mr. Farrukh Siddiqui – EVP & Head of Transaction Banking

Mr. Farrukh Siddiqui has a vast experience of 25 years in the field of Banking Operations and Treasury Management in Pakistan and abroad as well. He started his banking career in 1982 with a locally incorporated foreign bank in Pakistan. He also worked at the Head Office in Dubai in the same year. Throughout his professional career, Mr. Siddiqui has worked for local foreign private banks at different positions and departments including Customer Services and Forex.

Sohail Sikandar – SVP & Chief Financial Officer

An associate member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan, Mr. Sohail, has started his career with M. Yousuf Adil Saleem & Co. Chartered Accountants (A member firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu) where he has gained a versatile experience of auditing Banks and Non-Banking Financial Institutions. He has also been involved in Merger & Acquisition assignments of various financial institutions. Mr. Sohail was previously serving Dawood Family Takaful Limited as a Chief Financial Officer.

His area of expertise includes Financial Controlling and Corporate affairs, development of strategic business plans, risk management, organization wide budgeting and forecasting, and establishment of tax strategies, accounting procedures, robust control and governance environment etc.

Mr. Mujeeb Beig – EVP & Head of Research & Product Development

Mr. Mujeeb Baig has worked with Habib Bank AG Zurich as Senior Vice President. Besides being a business graduate, he is a part qualified Chartered Accountant, holds Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Banking & Finance from Dar-ul-Uloom, Karachi with silver medal. He is currently doing Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Jurisprudence (through correspondence) from International Islamic University, Islamabad. Mr. Baig has developed many innovative Shari'ah compliant products. He is a frequent visitor to IBA, Hamdard University, SZABIST, IBP, NIBAF and other training and educational institutions to conduct courses specially on Islamic Banking and Finance and also for other Finance discipline courses.

Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed – EVP & Head of Information Technology

Mr. Ahmed comes with over twenty years of experience in the field of planning, developing and implementing state-of-the-art information solutions facilitating corporate growth. He has lead cross-functional teams with diverse technical and banking background and has also designed budget controls. He also has experience in managing broad-based IT background of Infrastructure Management i.e. Networks, systems, web-hosting etc., Software Development and Database Management.
As IT Specialist along with MBA in MIS, Mr. Ahmed brought a considerable experience in Business / System analysis as well Implementation of Oracle Financials. He has also worked for a local privatized (public sector) bank as Project Manager in IT Operations where he was responsible to provide support on IT infrastructure including hardware and software to a huge branch network. Apart from this, Mr. Ahmed has also worked in the manufacturing and trading industry for a number of local as well as foreign public and private limited companies in Pakistan.

Mr. Syed Ali Asad – SVP & Head of Operations

Syed Ali Asad is an MBA from LUMS and he brings with him an extensive experience of more than a decade, in bank inspection, supervision and compliance.  He has to his credit various local and foreign trainings related to banking operations and bank supervision. During his previous job he played a pivotal role in promoting Branchless Banking in Pakistan. He has remained a visiting speaker at various universities and professional organizations. He is also a sustaining member of Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA). His vast diversified experience coupled with his in-depth understanding of banking operations, will help him in bringing  operational improvements at Dawood Islamic Bank.

Muhammad Saeed – VP & Head of Compliance

A Cost and Management Accountant  (ACMA), also having Masters in Commerce (M.com) from “University of Karachi” with 2nd Position. He has also passed Diploma in Banking (DAIBP) examination from Institute of Bankers Pakistan. Having served 11 years in State Bank of Pakistan in different positions, he gained profound experience in areas like Banking Inspection, Off-site Surveillance, Banking Policy & Regulations. He got several trainings related to banking industry, economics, risk management etc. His diversified experience and in-depth understanding of regulatory framework will help him in instituting a vibrant compliance culture at Dawood Islamic Bank..

Sheikh Mohammad Masood – SVP & Chief Manager – Main Branch

Joined MCB Bank Ltd. in 1971 and worked in various departments of the Bank on Managerial position. Mr. Masood brings with him over 36 years of experience in the field of General Banking. He was among the pioneers who developed Islamic Banking Division of a local private bank in 2003. He has joined DIBL as SVP and Chief Manager of the Main Branch, Karachi.
